The
Picket; supporting Liverpools Capital of Culture
Bid.
- The Pickets Venue Manager appeared before the
Capital of Culture judges, at the 19th July 2002 Central
Library presentation to support the Bid.
- When Capital of Culture judges visit Liverpool to
meet the representatives of the Citys Cultural Community on board the
Royal Daffodil, the Pickets Venue manager attends. He presents
Sir Jeremy Isaacs and others on the judging panel, with copies of
Liverpool compilation CDs, Rhyme Pays, that contain over 40
Liverpool musicians and bands.
- We distributed Bid badges to the
Pickets celebrity friends and supporters in the Music
industry, the Arts Community and amongst the general public, (e.g. John Peel
OBE, wore his badge with pride on the BBC programme Room
101).
- We distributed over 2,000 copies of the Rhyme
Pays compilation CDs amongst the Pickets celebrity
friends, supporters and contacts in the Music industry, the Arts Community and
the general public. The discs feature more than 40 Liverpool artistes and bands
ranging from The Beatles, The Scaffold
and Cilla to The Real Thing, The
Las, local Rappers, and Britains most
promising new band, The Coral.
- We hosted the launch for the book Liverpool;
Wondrous Place by Paul Du Noyer. Paul was born in Bootle, is a
respected music journalist and was formerly the editor of Mojo and Q magazines.
The book is a highly readable, intelligent and cultural analysis of the
Pool of Life; the definitive story of Liverpool pop. Mike
McCartney, Andy McCluskey, Pete Wylie, Ian McNabb, Space, Cast, Flock of
Seagulls, The Christians and many others from the Liverpool music
industry attend the event. The launch invitation cards include the bid logo and
a sign-up book was available for celebrities and guests to record
their support for the bid. We also erected a Capital of Culture Bid
stall at the event displaying promotional material.
- We repeatedly talked up the Bid in
interviews with the Media, (e.g. BBC Liquid News, Your
Move, Live and Black and White magazines).
- The Bid logo was included on all the
Pickets publicity material, including 1,000s of flyers, letterheads
and e-mails.
- We presented the Dry Bar gigs and the
Liverpool Now; High and Dry Festival to showcase, train and promote
under 18 talent from Liverpool. The events prove extremely successful and a DVD
about the projects, produced by a local filmmaker was featured on the BBC 2
Blast programme. The main funders for the projects, the
National Foundation for Youth Music are reportedly very
happy with the outcomes.
